Edimax NS-2505 JTAG Re-program

Hiya.

I've got a problem. I flashed my NS-2505 with the Planex ver 1.3.4 and it failed. I attempted a reprogram via the Serial interface, but like most men manuals are a waste of time. Neglected to do the correct sequence so now its stuffed. -RTFM- The lights flash for a split second and a single beep and the----------------------------------------- nothing.

Ive ordered a whole bunch of components to make a JTAG LPT interface (Cause you can`t buy on here) But im not sure what the procedure is to do this reprogram.

My components arrive on Monday the 21st June. I have in the intetrim soldered an old floppy disk cable in to the pin outs on the PCB (as that small form factor connector is too not avalible

here) I followed the layout from here http://mvixcommunity.com/wiki/WDN-2000_Main_Page .

My attempt of the JTAG is attached there is a slightly different version that involves 2 caps accross 2OE to GND and the Vcc [attach]246[/attach]

Can someone please help me.

Hi,
a simplified version of the circuit would also do the job.

Always use more than one GND wire for connecting the NAS and the LPT connector.
Connect unused inputs of the HC244 to GND or VCC.

Thats much easier. can i use the redboot for the NAS-4220. not sure if this device is similar.

Think i saw that is was in this forum somewere.

The NAS4220 hardware is different and the bootloader depends on the hardware.
You could even destroy the board if you use a wrong bootloader.

I am not 100% sure, maybe techman can confirm it, if the MvixBox bootloader is the same.

yes, it is used on many nas mainboards.

The connection if the gpio pins and the other hardware like network chips,... is different.

do you know the Wiki article?
There you find some hints for bugfixing...

If you have built the "Type 1" adapter I see from the output that you always get 0 (= 0V).
Is VCC and GND connected properly and the NAS switched on?

I`ve checked my earths. I could be my cable is just over 15cm.

means that the signal sent through TDO is received on TDI.

We call this "shortplug test"

The tool sends a testpattern on TDO and listens on the two possible TDI pins. This is how we find the cable type you are using.

Bypass-test: 0x5555aaaa  - not OK

We send a 0x5555aaaa pattern.
If TDO/TDI is connected with a wire we receive 0x5555aaaa --> short plug
If there is the CPU between we should receive 0xaaab5554 because the pattern is shifted one bit.

Something must be wrong with your adapter or cabling. Around 15cm cable length should be ok.

Take a Led with some series resistor (some value around 1k Ohm) and run the "LED Test".

of course, as written in the guide you have to activate the "debug mode".

LED Test

:thumbup: Thanks for all the help so far.

Tested with the led. Pin outs were all messed (Prob because of the IC 74HC244n). Will post up the diagram.

Got another prob. Ive used the open Gemini Bootloader image. It works perfectly. 8o

But now I need a kernel, Ramdisk, and app for the NS-2505 and Planex NAS-02SG or WDN-2000

Any Ideas where i can get that?

:thumbsup: All is well. Finished the flash. All i needed to do was install the gemini bootloader and flash the Kernal with the Edimax 0.74 bin file.

PS. I did however in the interim buy a Dlink DNS-323 (Far better product)
