Dual SATA NAS - unbricking issue - kernel image not found !!

Hi,
I am trying to unbrick my nas and I get the following error :- kernel image not found !!

I am following the procedure at :- http://mrt.nas-central.org/index.php/The…nbricking_guide

I am using the TTY and I can load the 3 images using the bootloader.

  • Press 4 on the bootloader menu, then insert these values (followed by enter): Kern, 0x70020000, 0x01600000, 0x01600000
    Press Y (if required), 2 (=download by TFTP), then enter your tftp server IP, press enter, enter 'zImage' and press enter
  • Press 4 on the bootloader menu, then insert these values (followed by enter): Ramdisk, 0x701A0000, 0x00800000, 0x00800000
    Press Y (if required), 2 (=download by TFTP), then enter your tftp server IP, press enter, enter 'rd.gz' and press enter
  • Press 4 on the bootloader menu, then insert these values (followed by enter): Application, 0x703A0000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000
    Press Y (if required), 2 (=download by TFTP), then enter your tftp server IP, press enter, enter 'hddapp.tgz' and press enter

but when I start the Kernel is comes back with :-

Boot Menu
====================================================================
1: Start the Kernel Code
2: List Image
3: Delete Image
4: Create New Image
5: Set IP adderss
6: Setting MAC address

X:Upgrade Boot Y:Upgrade Kernel

=> Select: 1

kernel image not fount !!


Any ideas ? I am using version G5S504020033B34

I think you enter the addresses in a wrong way.

Always enter a hex value (e.g. 0x12345678 ) then press return, then you will be asked for the next...

Ah, "list image" shows this strange result.

Hmm, then the FIS area seems being corrupted.

Tftp download, erase and flashing runs ok?

HI,
I created an image of the firmware version G5S50033B34 with the MAC address 7AB4F50016B3 - Downlaod Link
IT's a rar - unrar it and you have the 8MB file. Check that it is exactly 8.388.608 Bytes in size.

This file can be flashed using the option "X:Upgrade Boot"
Be very careful as this overwrites the bootloader, too. It will take about 15 minutes.

You have to change the MAC address to yours (you should find a sticker somewhere on the board)

You can edit it with a hex editor (e.g. frhed - offset 8126651/0x7c00bb) directly inside the image before flashing or later by the bootloader. Search for the MAC (ASCII text) and change it.

Hi

I have the same problems , and up load the file to suject the HWguru (firmware version G5S50033B34 with the MAC address 7AB4F50016B3 - Downlaod Link ). After that all is work ok .
But if call the telnet connection is need the user name and password .
Who is the correct ?. Is very inportand to have the Boot Menu Again

if I understand correctly your NAS is working again.

Try the same user and pass as for the web interface - or admin/admin - or root/admin. Some Links to MRT Forum #1 #2
Note that admin is a normal user and only root has full access.

I have try the user : root and is not request me for password and i have the next :

'' BusyBox v1.000-rc3 (2008.05.16.07:25+0000) Built-in shall (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commants. ''

And i try also user : admin password : admin and i have the same result


How to find the next menu telnet ? ( as before intall the new firmware G5S50033B34 )

Hi,
when the NAS has booted normally "Busybox" is the normal linux console.

The "Boot Menu" is the prompt of the bootloader. This can only be reached a few seconds after starting the NAS.
I can be accessed through the serial port or telnet but only some seconds after system startup. Please have a look at the unbricking guide.
The easiest way of access is by using the IcyBox_FlashStart tool.

This tends to be off topic. I will create a new thread later...
