Raidsonic Icy Box IB-NAS4210-B serial port guide and openwrt

Hi,
I am trying to revive an old thread from the lost nas-portal.org related to this great device, IB-4210-B. A long time ago (about 9 years), with the help of a frient that authored the still active website opengemini.free.fr I succeeded to rewrite the bootloader and get access to the serial port. I then communicated with Tobias Waldvogel that created https://github.com/tobiaswaldvogel/openwrt-ib42x0and succeeded to compile a working version for IB-4210 which is basically quite the same with IB-4220. I plan to add here all the info I have since then in order to use it to give this great device life using openwrt.

I will start here, a page with a lot of links , many of them dead.

Hi Fratzicu, nice to have you here :). I saw your page before, I guess it is yours?
You mentioned the guy from opengemini and that you managed to patch the bootloader? Have you got the sources, is it the redboot and also adaptable for other gemini devices?
I found the idea great from opengemini to boot from a tftp in case of a fault. Unfortunately his loader did not work for me. I honestly did not have the nerve to dive into the red hat code.
Where are you now with openwrt? Do you have it working?
Another thing you do not know for chance the JTAG pins of your NAS, do you?

Regards

Hendrik

Hi,
I have it working with openwrt for many years. Frederic (opengemini) gave me back then an image with a custom redboot that I installed and I can use it to flash kernel image, rd.gz and hdd.gz on the flash chip of the device. When I'll have time I'll dig into my old emails to give you that file. I recently compiled openwrt 18.06 that gave the same flashable files (kernel, rd.gz and hdd.gz but the 19.07 does give only a squashfs image. That's why I would like to know how to backip and flash with jtag before testing with new openwrt images.
Where can I download NAS_flashtool from?

Thank you...HWguru.
I also ordered from eBay another NAS4210 device to play with it.

When I start will you guide me a little bit with JTAG? I have a TUMPA device with which I played successfully with zjtag on Huawei HG655b which can be turned also into a NAS.

This NAS_flashtool could be used also with orion platform (also ARM based)?

This is the serial pinout of the Raidsonic NAS4210 board (see attached)

I found this schematic related to JTAG. (also attached) Is this the correct pinout? Only I don't see the pins on the mainboard.

Also I post a few photos with chips. I don't know if this is helpful but anyway.

I couldn't find any wiki page active.

On the mainboard one can read:

E10-7133151D6H
MP-LN2U23SL-3512-V1.01

In my current openwrt kernel log it says
CPU: FA526 [66015261] revision 1 (ARMv4), cr=0000397f
What can I say? A whole lot of information was on nas-portal.org, all gone it seems.

Original bootlog (attached)

I tried to insert code but it is not working, the lines are not parsed with end of lines. How is this working?

There is no pin header for the JTAG signals unfortunately - only for the serial port.

At the moment we are trying to figure out if the JTAG signals are connected to any resistors on the mainboard.
If this does not wor the last chance is to remove the CPU and look where the pins are connected ;(
So stay tuned...

Yes, nas-portal was hacked an all data is lost. I run a daily backup of my forum

NAS_FlashTool is very specific and only works for Storlink/Cortina 3316, 3512/3516 devices.

Could the jtag pins be in the same header with serial?

I saw 10 pin serial port. Any chance the other pins would be JTAG?
For example the other NAS I have, the Lacie has a 8 pin header and I found a pinout for jtag and serial in the same header here

http://lacie-nas.org/doku.php?id=2big_nas

Also on this page

http://opengemini.free.fr/wiki/doku.php?id=cortina

The author seemed to succeed but probably with another device

I wander if here we can find some info?

No, I don't own a NAS4210.
I own an IB-NAS1000, IB-NAS2000, IB-NAS4220.
I don't think that there are JTAG signals on the RS232 header. There seem to be the RS232 control signals.

My NAS2000 is up 24-7 since 2007 and stores the forum backup every day.
About two or three times I had to replace the Electrolytic capacitors of the external PSU.
It is slow but the power consumption is little because the disk spins down.

Hi Fratzicu,

you can unpack the squashfs file lie here:

Citato

https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/openwrt/patch/20190717172332.8286-1-linus.walleij@linaro.org/
.
Somehow the board software does not work with the email inside of the link, so you have to cop it anually. Then you should have the files you need.

Codice sorgente

1
tar xvf openwrt-XXX-squashfs-factory.bin

Ok,
So the squashfs.bin is in fact a tar file archive.

Thank you. I'll test that

Hi!

The two devices have different SoCs. IB-NAS4210-B uses SL3512, IB-NAS4220-B uses SL3516. These two SoCs are different. You need a special firmware for each device.
