[SOLVED] FTP Transfer & Connectivity is slow

Hello to the forum.
I have installed Tinky on my NAS 1000 and i notice that the FTP is not so' fast....and the ftp log not work....any suggestion???

Might be cause of killed ProFTP process. Bu I can not see why.

Hi, adding the line:


UseSendfile off

to your proftpd.cof file should solve the prob & provide the full speed to you and your friends.

...i am yery neewbie.....where is the file e in which way can i modify??....using notepad or ultraedit.....can i replace in the NAS???

How 2 do it

Hi,

OK. I was a newbie times ago... just like you ;)

The following is needed 2 solve the problem:

1.) Download the do_it application (written by HWguru... thanks again!) form here

2.) open a (samba, ftp or child) connection to your Box and upload the do_it.tar.gz (you just downloaded) in IDE1/public/applications/new_software

3.) restart your box by Hardware Button or web-config (shut down and start)

4.) open the web-configuration (http://YourLocalIPofTheBox)

5.) look into the system-log. If the entry "unable to open delay table" (or something like this) is missing (you probably have seen that yet) the operation was successful and you will have the full speed up & download 2 and from your ICYBOX.

If not, there are several different ways 2 solve the prob. The described above is the very easy way to do so. Test it and if your Box is still at an easy rate post again.

If you are successful do the same, cause we want the feedback to know that it works.

I just have seen that your running system ist not the original one but TINKY. Do you know putty or winscp to make a child connection - logging on as "root" ?

If yes, simply open the dir usr/hddapp/etc and open the proftpd.conf with vi (putty) or modify (winscp-right klick) and add the line:

UseSenfile off

restart the BOX.

Thats it.

As I understand your post in this way... your ftp is still at an easy rate (very slow) you need to check up the proftpd.conf running on NAS.

This file is located in usr/hddapp/etc. To reach this folder you need to login as ROOT.

Do you have putty or winscp or some other tool installed on your PC to connect with your box and login as ROOT? If not do so. I recommend PUTTY (you can download from the www) cause we use it too.

The default password is "raidsonic".

Open the proftpd.conf with "VI" using putty (or "edit" by using WINSCP). Look for the entry "UseSendfile off".

Give me a feedback when you did so.

Thanks a lot for your help.....
I have WINSCP...i have modified the file (the passw for root is nas2000)
....now i am in remote .....away from NAS....i coonect the NAS
using DYNDNS.....after a few experiment with ftp.....the ftplog disappear and now also the web interface not works....only way is reboot...but i am not there.....is possible to do with winscp???

Ah, I see! You can not reboot yor NAS - cause you are away. Well, if you use WINscp you have an icon to start a command window. Its (like) putty and it comes with WINSCP.

Log on the box

Edit the proftp.conf - add the line UseSendfile off (If not already done ;) )

then: stop the proftpd server (I just dont know if its the same on NAS2001 - I am using a NAS1000 so Check the path before!) with the following command:

/usr/hddapp/etc/rc.d/S91proftpd.sh stop

Right after that start the server

/usr/hddapp/etc/rc.d/S91proftpd.sh start

This should work and you do not need to restart the whole BOX.

The speed seems ok...but the FTPlog on web page is always lost...!!!??

Hi videobelu,

I found 3 problems, depending on your connectivity:

first of all you schould comment out (remove the "#")

#PassivePorts 60000 60100

second comment out

#UseReverseDNS off

and third: comment out

#IdentLookups off

OK. The speed problem is solved - as you said and the "UseSendfile off" is set correctly.

Well. The 3 hints above schould solve the problem of connectivity to your ICYBOX.

I will now close this topic, cause now we drift into an other topic and this fits not the Header you choosed- opening this threat.
