Looking inside the upgrade file MvixBOX_v1.0.0.6.bin

Hi,
I tried to look inside MvixBOX_v1.0.0.6.bin

There is a kind of header inside the file

Source code

1
58002e9bbf7bb9650f428040deaf3b83 mbox_v1.0.0.6.tgz

Therefore I opened it with a hex editor and removed the first 1024 bytes. And voila - renamed it to .tgz and it can be opened.

If you added this header file to the Planex firmware would it install in pretence of being MvixBox firmware?

One of our MvBUG members has succesfully unbricked his unresponsive MBox by starting with the above method to look inside firmware version 1.1.

He then extracted the Kernel and Ramdisk files and flashed them to the appropriate locations via the serial port on the MBox.

After that all was well again. :D
