Tinky ported to VERBATIM/SMARTDISK SOHO NAS

Just a word to inform the author(s) of tinky that I have "ported" tinky to another Centroid based NAS produced by SMARTDISK (now owned by Verbatim).

The firmware is based on the current release of tinky, has its own kernel, uses a recent busybox, with more applets in and dropbear 0.51 with tunnelling and still allows printing (lpd/lpr). These upgrades could be easily extracted from the firmware available here:

http://thomas.schiex.free.fr/Sohonas/SohonasTinky-130608/

to inject them in the NAS2000 firmware if needed.

I also needed FLAC support on mt-daapd. So I created new packages:

libflac8_1.2.1_armv4tl.ipk
libvorbis_0.3.2_armv4tl.ipk
libvorbisfile_3.2.0_armv4tl.ipk
mt-daapd_1696-svn_armv4tl.ipk

They will be soon available at

Hi,

i have a verbatim/SmartDisk SOHO NAS at version 2.3.2.03b

I want to install your firmware ... can you point me to good direction (I don't understand german)

I tried what's mentioned in the wiki, but withtout success.

I cannot catch the bootloader at 192.168.2.71 and not even at 192.168.0.1 (as mentioned here: http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/TelnetIntoRedBoot)

Have you also tried the IcyBox FlashStart tool?
Can be found here at download/tools

The IP of the bootloader should be 192.168.2.71 as mentioned at ThomasSchiex's Soho NAS Smartdisk Wiki

getting better

Hi again,

I was able to catch the bootloader ... (I didn't before because there was 3 switches between my PC and the NAS)

now I have the SohonasTinky-130608.tar.gz firmware
containing:

	Source code

isn't safe to upload it via the web interface ?

it is said that's it's based on tinky, and my nas is still on the original firmware

but ... cannot connect wia SSH:

SSH Access

As I cannot access via SSH (Windows/Linux)

I'm suspecting the key generation, do you know where can I find'em ?

I'll connect my disk via USB and will try to remove'em, reboot and see

Hello zydoon,
you could try to activate telnet.

Tinky has a feature "tinky_hook" which allows scripts being executed at boot. This is described in filp's README.
You have to create a script tinky_hook here /mnt/IDE1/public/tinky

There is a German post how to activate telnet on the Raidsonic NASs.
Normally telnet is activated using inetd. It must be configured to do so (/etc/inetd.conf) and the telnetd binary must be on the box or included in the busybox.

Just thought I'd add my report:

I was able to "upgrade" my SohoNAS to the Tinky version in this thread but as everyone else I was not able to find an SSH client for windows that will talk to it. I then decided to go back to the stock firmware that at least supports Telnet but now it doesn't boot. I tried using redboot to reflash the "firmware.save" file available on the same website as the special Tinky version but no joy

. I can get it to download it from my TFTP server but it doesn't seem to want to flash it or something? I type in "Y" when asked if I want to flash but never hear anything else back after that?
